Snake Safety

Snake and Magpie Safety

SPRING HAS SPRUNG and that means magpies and snakes are out and about!

We ask that members remain extra vigilant –

SNAKE SAFETY –

Please be careful when looking for balls in the rough and bush – use your club to search rather than your hand

If you see a snake on course –

Stand STILL, slowly move away if safe to do so. If the snake is very close keep still and let the snake move away from you, any movement within close range might cause the snake to react

Keep CALM, give the snake a chance to slither away. Try not to panic if it moves, it may want to pass to escape

Leave the snake ALONE, do not try to catch it. Don’t throw anything, don’t hit it & don’t yell at it

Watch the snake to see where it goes. LOOK with your eyes only! Wait & monitor action

Call an EXPERT, a professional snake catcher if needed

Please RESTRAIN pets to keep them safe

If you are bitten by a snake –

Call an ambulance immediately

Don’t panic, try to remain calm and don’t move

Leave the snake alone

Apply a pressure immobilisation bandage and splint

Don’t wash, suck, cut or tourniquet the bite.

Snake kits can be located behind the door in the on-course toilets

MAGPIE SAFETY –

Wear a hat, sunglasses and shelter under umbrella to protect head and eyes in areas known to have swooping magpies

Walk, don’t run from the area

Walk in a group

Don’t provoke or harass the magpie, it is only protecting its young
