Passing of Alan ‘Hawkeye’ Hawkins

Alan ‘Hawkeye’ Hawkins

It is with great sadness that we inform members of the passing of Alan ‘Hawkeye’ Hawkins.  He passed away peacefully at his home aged 88.  Alan Hawkins was a member of the Coffs Harbour Golf Club from 1981 and was heavily involved at the Club, volunteering in many facets including

  • Club Captain – 1984 & 1991
  • Board Member
  • Festival of Golf Committee
  • Greens Committee
  • Volunteered clearing the poker machines twice a week for over 5 years
  • Club person of the year – 2010

Alan was also heavily involved in the Mid North Coast VETS association where he held the position of President from 1998 through to 2009, at which point he was inducted as Life Member.  During his tenure he was involved as Tournament Director and Convener for the NSW Vets Match Play Championships.  At these two consecutive weeks around 300 Vets entered the competitions playing about 1800 games of golf with 500 attending the Presentation Dinners at the former Catholic Club.

Alan might be regarded as a “golf tragic” not only because of his works for the Association and the Coffs Harbour Golf Club but due to the fact he has played at over 400 golf courses around the world.  Indeed he had a round at Coffs only a few weeks ago.

There will be no service however he is being cremated at 10am Friday 15th and his family has asked that his golfing buddies could pause to remember Alan
